If you do not have the Version already pushed out to your Verizon Droid then these steps should help. (If you are not tech Savvy then please wait for the carrier to push out the update for you.)
As always as a precaution you should back up EVERYTHING on your phone first..
First of all you should know that you don’t need to root your Droid and this is the same package that Verizon will send to you, although the file is stored on Google’s servers.
These are the suggested steps to manually update your Motorola Droid from non 2.1 to Android 2.1: Note you will need a card reader on your computer for this step
- Download this file and do NOT unzip it;
- Then you should rename the file to “update.zip” without the ” marks;
- Take out the microSD card, (see manual if you do not know which part this is) from your Motorola Droid;
- Plug the microSD card into a computer using a card reader, then drop the file on the microSD card. Do not put the update.zip file into a folder or something, just put in the main folder. This will be the 1st folder that is there when you open the card. Then turn off the droid and plug in the microSD card- access the keyboard and press the “X” key. Holding it down the whole time (the X Key)turn the droid back on
- Once you see the “!” exclamation point on the display, press the volume “UP” and the camera buttons simultaneously. If you don’t see it loading, retry until you see the bootloader
- Then use the D-pad, navigate to “apply:update.zip” and click “update.zip” file that you copied on your microSD card earlier
- Once you are finished with the update the droid will reboot on its own
GOOD LUCK!
